Buddhism looks at 3 roots that give us challenge in life. Our desiring and grasping nature, our aversive nature and delusion, the minds ability to overlay false perceptions of the world through our biases, opinions, beliefs, prejudices, habits and so on.
These roots are hard-grained in all of us. Evolving over many thousands of years and they cause us challenge in numerous ways.
There are many antidotes to these roots and one of these is gratitude. The ability to see the good in life and to move a thankful mind state into ourselves. This calms us and brings in contentment
