Kundalini Yoga & Shakti Dance

Kundalini Yoga is a school of yoga that derives its name through a focus on awakening kundalini (a form of primal energy (or shakti) said to be located at the base of the spine) through regular practice of meditation, pranayama, chanting mantra and yoga postures. The yoga of awareness, it aims to cultivate the creative spiritual potential of a human to focus on compassion and consciousness.

Shakti Dance was created bySara Olivier Avtar Kaurs . It evolved from her lifelong inspiration of movement and 20 years of Kundalini yoga practice as a teacher, teacher trainer and healer. Our teacher, Svetlana, was trained by Sara.

A Shakti Dance class consists of different phases that combine to cleanse and awaken the pranic body, so that the practitioner can access and enjoy the Spirit of Shakti. Following the principles of Patanjali’s yoga sutras, there are usually 8 phases in a session, mirroring the 8 limbs of yoga, or ashtang element which yoga is founded on.

Here at the Sangha House we have a special class combining Kundilini Yoga and Shakti Dance. 90 minutes of physical and spirtitual persuit.
